Isar Aerospace
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Europe, especially Munich, has a strong tradition of innovators advancing technological processes. Isar Aerospace's co-founders, Daniel Metzler and Josef Fleischmann, are prime examples. From a young age, they have been committed to pushing technology and society forward. Their paths first crossed at the WARR rocketry research lab at the Technical University Munich, where Daniel led a team of 40 students developing rocket engines and launching sounding rockets globally, and Josef with his team won the first-ever SpaceX Hyperloop competition.
By 2018, they had joined forces and launched Isar Aerospace. With the aim of lowering the entry barriers to space, Isar Aerospace quickly achieved significant technological and commercial milestones. The company has since then raised more than €350 million in private capital, making it the most dominant independent New Space company in the European Union.
Isar Aerospace's first product, the Spectrum launch vehicle, is set to transform the European space industry. Designed and manufactured fully in-house using advanced manufacturing methods, Spectrum is smaller, cheaper, more flexible and more efficient, making it an economically viable option for satellite operators. Its versatility allows it to carry a wide range of payloads, from small CubeSats to larger satellites and constellations, catering to diverse space missions.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
With its more than 20 years of experience backing founders who dare to go above and beyond - in Isar Aerospace’s case quite literally, HV Capital recognized Isar Aerospace's remarkable drive and ambition during a factory tour. Their dedication to forging a new path in the space industry perfectly embodies HV's commitment to "backing those who dare." This philosophy drives HV’s investment strategy, and few pursuits are as daring as space exploration. HV takes pride in investing in innovative ventures that challenge the status quo, and Isar Aerospace's bold team, cutting-edge technology, and potential to transform the space industry make it an exhilarating opportunity that HV is proud to support.
FUTURE PERSPECTIVES
Space represents a vast, untapped market with enormous economic potential. As the space industry grows, new opportunities emerge in satellite communications, earth observation, and even asteroid mining.
