ABOUT LARS
Lars grew up in a small village near Hamburg in northern Germany. From a young age he had an entrepreneurial spirit, striving to earn extra pocket money. This grew into a genuine passion for building businesses.
He moved to Saarbruecken near the French border to study Business Administration (Dipl-Kfm) in record time. While there he wrote his PhD thesis on the Social Construction of Trust within Organizations. Following his studies, Lars moved to Hong Kong and then Barcelona during the '90s.
He started in the VC industry over two decades ago. At the time, he was overwhelmed by the entrepreneurial options that existed for people in their twenties. Experience only matters as long as it does not get in the way of innovation, Lars said to himself and rolled up his sleeves. In 2000 during his first years at HV as a member of the Investment Team, Lars co-founded and built up Parship which has become one of the leading matchmaking companies globally (today owned by Nucom Group).
Afterwards he co-founded Audible Germany (acquired by Amazon) and Experteer (acquired by Medien Union) before representing portfolio companies such as Care.com (NYSE: CRCM), Wooga (acquired by Playtika), Depop (acquired by Etsy), Thermondo, DELLI and Global Savings Group.
Lars knows that building a company is always an emotional rollercoaster. As one of HV's Founding Partners, he has been involved in several hundred transactions and is arguably one of the most experienced venture capitalists in Europe.
In his free time, Lars can be found chasing new music treasures or digging in his garden. He also commits to an ongoing improvement of his karate skills.
THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS, AND PASSION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT FOR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE.
