Martin's strong personal principles and rock-solid values guided his career pathway through business and banking. He would say these elements of his personality were crucial, if not the most valuable, ingredient for his career success and his contributions towards the DNA of HV today. He has unparalleled experience within the industry, having been involved in over 100 deals.

Hailing from Southern Germany, Martin studied Business Administration in Nuremberg, graduating with honors. He followed his personal values and an interest in finance towards a career supporting entrepreneurs.

In 1994, Martin started out as Investment Manager of the VC company Bayerische KBG. The focus was on low tech: fashion companies, rail and road transportation, hotel chains, telco and next century VR companies, with clients such as Wernesgrüner Brewery, Arena and Rene Lezard. Digital transformed the industry. Fascinated by entrepreneurship and innovation, Martin moved into tech-related business. He focused on operations and became CFO of Netlife AG, the software company specializing in online banking and brokerage. At 30 years old, he was responsible for preparing, executing and managing this listed entity at c-level. He delivered the successful IPO of Netlife in 1999.

Martin has been at HV Capital since its foundation in 2000. He has played a major role in the development of the company into one of Europe's leading venture capital firms. In 2010, under Martin's leadership, the company transformed into a true partnership. During this time it became independent from the former single LP Holtzbrinck Publishing Group. He has helped some of Europe's most successful online companies on their way, including Groupon, Lazada, Linio, Delivery Hero, Spark Networks (eDarling) and Global Fashion Group. He also steers fund strategy, investor relations and capital-raising.
